A car parked on a Jersey City street early Thursday morning was struck by lightning during a violent storm, causing it and the car parked in front of it to catch fire, authorities said.

Jersey City firefighters responded to Myrtle Avenue at 2:46 a.m. Thursday and found a 2013 BMW and a 2008 Nissan Maxima fully engulfed in flames, Jersey City public safety spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the cars and the Arson Unit determined that the Nissan was struck by lightning and the fire extended to the BMW. No injuries were reported.
